Located just west of the city of San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital, Escazu is one of the Central Valley’s most fashionable residential areas as well as an up and coming area for condo development. Centrally located just minutes from bustling downtown San Jose, Escazu has a charm all its own, offering a wide variety of condos and residential environments as well as different services, businesses, features and settings contained within a relatively small area. Escazu is divided in to several different sections. The area known as San Rafael has a bustling commercial strip with many restaurants and storefronts behind which lies a neighborhood known as Trejos Montealegre. Trejos, as it is affectionately known, is home to many of Costa Rica’s wealthier families and contains a lot of single family homes as well as some spectacular condos. Just south of San Rafael and Trejos lies Bello Horizonte , which links San Rafael with Escazu proper, or downtown Escazu as it is known locally. Bello Horizonte is a beautiful residential neighborhood with a lot of newer luxury condominiums. The Bello Horizonte area has very few businesses and is much hillier than Trejos, which is fairly flat. Condos in this neighborhood tend to be pricier and more secluded, with better views. The quaint and charming town of Escazu proper lies above and to the west of San Jose below the town of San Antonio de Escazu, nestled in the foothills of the exquisite Escazu Mountains, a small protected mountain range which is covered in virgin jungle and home to a vast array of neotropical flora and fauna. Western Escazu is a home to many new condo developments, as is the southern part up toward San Antonio. Condo buyers have a wide variety of options and can choose from small, simple one bedroom units to large fully equipped 3 bedroom condos. Condo owners can enjoy small town life just a stone’s throw from the big city, in a place where it’s not unusual to see folks riding down the street on horseback and where the lively sounds of the farmer’s market fill the street every Saturday morning. Escazu is famous for the production of painted oxcarts and there is a procession each year in which “campesinos”, or local farmers, wheel there ox driven carts down the main road right onto the highway. For all of its rural charm, however, Escazu also has plenty of urban appeal. From state of the art spas and fitness centers to the finest dining in Central America, a huge shopping mall, a monumental array of stores of every kind, high speed broadband internet connectivity, legal financial and consulting services of every kind, luxurious condos, to a host of night clubs, bars and hot spots, Escazu has it all. In fact it is precisely the juxtaposition of this small town charm and big city zest that makes Escazu such an appealing place to shop for a condo. Well, that and the price. Believe it or not, condos here are still quite affordable. Affordability, convenience, central location and a dose of charm all play a part in making Escazu one of Costa Rica’s most desirable condo and real estate markets today |
